benefits on upgrading motherboards bios?

what exactly can we get from updating a bios? i have very old mobo(AGP 8x) it has 1.40 (2005) version and i updated it to 1.50 (2007) does it mean i can use 2007 AGP VGA's? like i can use it with "HD 3850 AGP)
