Is atmospheric dissipation possible?

Could a planet, like Earth, or Venus, or a moon like Titan, suddenly(within a week) lose its entire atmosphere? I saw it on Star Trek, and although I know that Trek science isn't always good science, I was wondering if there was any basis for this to theoretically occur.
